All dates, deadlines, and a step-by-step guide to register for the Portuguese A2 exam required for nationality applications.
CAPLE publishes separate calendars for exams in Portugal (6 Saturday sessions) and abroad (3 sessions). Each session has its own registration, results, diploma, and re-evaluation dates.
If registration in Portugal is closed or your nearest centre is full, you can register at an exam centre in another country. Centres in Spain are the most accessible:
Badajoz · Salamanca · Cáceres · Sevilha · Madrid · Vigo · Santiago de Compostela · Valência · Zaragoza · Zamora · León · Palma de Maiorca
You can take the CIPLE at any CAPLE centre worldwide, regardless of where you live. Simply choose a different country in the first step of registration.
Registration is done exclusively on the official CAPLE website, the University of Lisbon entity responsible for the exams.
In the form, choose CIPLE as the desired exam. Then select the country and exam centre where you want to take the test.
Select your preferred exam date and exam centre (LAPE). Confirm the date works with your availability.
Complete all fields in the registration form. Pay special attention to:
After submitting the form, you have 24 hours to make the payment. The exam costs €85.
After payment, you will receive an email with your registration number. Keep this number — you'll need it on exam day.
Special conditions exist for candidates with severe disabilities (visual or motor limitations) or candidates aged 60+ who are illiterate. In these cases, only the Oral Production and Interaction (PIO) component may be taken.
If this applies to you, contact the LAPE before registering and send the multi-purpose certificate (for disability) and your ID document.
The €85 registration fee is non-refundable. If you withdraw or fail to attend on exam day, no refund will be given. Confirm your availability before registering.
To avoid surprises, prepare this information before accessing the registration form. All fields are mandatory.
At the end of the form, you must check 3 boxes:
1. That you have read and accept the exam rules.
2. That you know the oral component (PIO) is video recorded.
3. That you are 18+ (or have parental consent).
Tip: Have your ID document at hand — the number you enter must match exactly the document you bring on exam day.
